Shelby Jordan played 12 seasons in the National Football League with the New England Patriots (1975-82) and the Los Angeles Raiders (1982-2004). (1983-86). Jordan was drafted by the Houston Oilers in the seventh round of the 1973 NFL draught out of Washington University in St. Louis. In 1974, he signed as a free agent with the Patriots. In his eight seasons with the Patriots, Jordan played 95 right tackles, including 87 starts. He concluded his career as a member of the 1983 Super Bowl XVIII champion Raiders. 2013 saw the induction of Jordan into the College Football Hall of Fame.

As part of a professional scholarship program at Washington University in St. Louis, Jordan attended evening classes. His coach convinced him to join the football squad. From 1969 through 1972, he led the University of Washington Bears in tackles for three consecutive seasons while playing linebacker for the Bears. 1974 saw his college graduation with a degree in psychology.

Inducted into the College Football Hall of Fame in 2013, he is regarded as the best defensive player in the history of the University of Washington. Jordan was taken by the Houston Oilers with the 157th overall choice in the 1973 NFL Draft. Jordan was released by the Oilers during training camp. He is employed by service goods.
