Matt Zingler and Tariq Cherif started the festival in 2015. They met when they were in elementary school in Hollywood, Florida. When they were in high school, the two started planning and promoting events with “strong references to the mix of Southern and Midwestern rap.”
Rolling Loud Active Shooter
In 2010, they switched to live music events put on by professionals, starting with Rick Ross’s shows. During the summer of 2013, they put on regular shows in Miami with up-and-coming artists like Travis Scott and Kendrick Lamar. Before they realized there was a need for a certain kind of festival, the two worked under the Dope Entertainment banner to promote SoundCloud rap artists from Florida.
In February 2015, the first Rolling Loud took place in Miami, Florida. Artists like Schoolboy Q, Juicy J, Currensy, and Action Bronson were there. Even though it rained briefly during the event, it took place at Soho Studios in the city’s Wynwood neighborhood.
