Yearon Anthony Brathwaite was born to a Jamaican mother and a Trinidadian father in Mississauga, Ontario. The songs his father played for him as a child, like Jodeci, Boyz II Men, Blackstreet, and 112, inspired him.
After performing electronically-influenced R&B under his own name, Jahron Brathwaite, he secured a publishing contract with Warner/Chappell as a songwriter under the name PartyNextDoor at the age of 18. The iTunes Store launched its debut mixtape, PartyNextDor, on July 1, 2013.
It debuted at number two on the Top R&B/Hip-Hop Albums list for the week of July 20, 2013, with sales of 2,000 copies. On Drake’s third studio album, Nothing Was The Same, he provided backing vocals for “Own It” and “Come Thru.”
