Juma received her BA, MA, and Ph.D. at Oxford University. Additionally, she earned her Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees from the University of Nairobi. She concurrently served as Kenya’s ambassador to Ethiopia, Djibouti, the African Union, the Intergovernmental Authority on Development, and the Economic Commission for Africa of the United Nations. Juma has vast experience in the field of diplomacy. She served as an ambassador for each of these organizations from Addis Ababa.
From June 27, 2013, until her transfer to the Kenyan Ministry of the Interior, she worked as the Principal Secretary of the Kenyan Ministry of Defense.
Juma is a senior research fellow in the South African University of Pretoria’s Department of Political Science. She is also an adjunct professor at the National Defense University’s African Center for Strategic Studies in Washington, D.C., United States. Juma has authored and published various articles in her area of expertise.
