She reported seeing “a nursing mother bear with her cubs foraging in the foliage below” after taking up her phone to see the footage. As a bird watcher, Tomlinson remarked, “I have bird feeders outside, but I always bring them in at night because of the bears.” She wasn’t, however, placed in the feeding trough on this particular night.

The bear can be seen in the footage scaling a large pillar on the porch deck before jumping over the railing and into the aviary. Tomlinson gave the glass door she was standing behind a stern knock, but the bear was already on the move.

That’s incorrect, Tomlinson remarked. Tomlinson finally adopted her “teacher’s voice,” as she put it, after a few more blows. She added, her voice firm and demanding, “I opened the door and led her downstairs.”

“It always works. I have no fear. All I want is to keep my feeder. That was really thrilling.“Tomlinson claimed that she began her career as a teacher in the late 1970s at Southside High School before moving on to Hillcrest Middle School, Mauldin High School, and Greer High School.

This time of year, according to Tomlinson, the bears in the mountains of North Carolina are busy. Also, we secured the doors. They can be opened by bears, she claimed. Tomlinson shared the footage on her Facebook page and described the moment as “once in a lifetime.”
