Before he was murdered, Cayler Ellingson, 18, allegedly called his mother. They assert that this occurred because Shannon Brandt, 41, was pursuing him in McHenry, the city where the street dance had just concluded.
Cayler Ellingson was purposely slain
Early on Sunday morning, Brandt called 911 to report that he had just struck Ellingson. He said that the adolescent was a member of a Republican extremist group and was screaming for help following an argument. Monday, according to court documents, Brandt was officially charged with vehicular manslaughter; Ellingson had already died by the time his mother arrived at the scene.
Prior to the automobile accident, Ellingson’s mother acknowledged that he had called her. He inquired as to whether she knew Brandt, but she believes he is unfamiliar with him.
Additionally, police allege that Brandt was intoxicated when he fatally struck Ellingson with his SUV in a tiny alleyway. According to Niewind, they are still attempting to determine what occurred previous to the tragic incident.
Niewind stated that despite their efforts, no witnesses to the accident have been interviewed. They are still looking for any witnesses who were present at the street dance prior to the collision.
Brandt argued that he was not a flight risk and opposed the judge’s ruling that he remains in jail on $50,000 bail.
Brandt told the judge that he did not wish to lose vital family members. He did not want his life to fall apart if he was convicted of vehicular homicide due to a past DUI. He stated that he had a home, a job, and a full life. As the investigation proceeds, additional charges could be proposed. Currently, the maximum sentence for this offense is twenty years.
